Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
A major mishap was narrowly averted on Sunday morning when a high-voltage power wire snapped and fell on the Malda-Azimganj Express before entering New Farakka station in Murshidabad. The train immediately came to a halt, sparking panic among passengers.
According to local sources, the train had left Malda and was heading towards Azimganj when the incident occurred. Passengers were gradually deboarded at the nearest station as railway staff rushed to the spot.
Railway officials have launched an investigation to determine whether poor maintenance or another technical fault led to the wire snapping. At 10:14 am, the train was still stationed near the site, with officials working to restore operations.
The incident has raised serious safety concerns, especially as it happened just before the Farakka barrage. Locals questioned what might have happened had the train stalled on the barrage itself, leaving passengers stranded without an escape route.
